Two area casinos closed at midnight on Wednesday and one other made closed Thursday morning.
The Tonkawa Hotel and Casino, Native Lights Casino and Tonkawa Gasino, under the ownership of the Tonkawa Tribe, closed at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday. All properties will remain closed until Wednesday, April 1 at 10 a.m.; however, if anything changes the public will be notified.
The Otoe-Missouria Tribe decided to close its Paradise Casino location south of Ponca City. The tribe’s other properties, including First Council Casino-Hotel and the First Council Gasino, remain open.
The Osage Nation also voted to suspend operations at all seven of its casinos Wednesday night until further notice. This includes Osage Casino in Ponca City.
“We feel it is our responsibility to remain vigilant and take the right precautions to help slow the progression of this virus,” says Phillip Glass, CEO of Tonkawa Enterprises. “And closing our properties is the right thing to do. We promise to be transparent with our guests every step of the way. Our management team will continue to keep you informed and aware of any updates as they become available.”
“We weighed this decision heavily because of the impact it will have on the Osage Nation,” said Byron Bighorse, CEO of Osage Casinos. “However, the health and safety of our employees and guests is our top priority. We are in a time when the entire community needs to pull together for what is best, and that is preventing the spread of this global pandemic.”
Osage casinos, along with adjacent hotels, will remain closed indefinitely while tribal officials “continue to monitor the situation at hand,” Bighorse said.
The Kaw Nation closed their casinos on Tuesday night.
